Delay the Disease™ is an evidenced-based wellness program that empowers people with Parkinson’s Disease to live better, experience new levels of hope by optimizing function and restoring independence.
This national wellness program is designed to retrain the mind and body. Participants report improvement in quality of life, regained ability to successfully manage the disease, and regain control. This program targets daily functional challenges and symptom-specific fitness agendas. Exercise plans are adapted to all levels of the disease, valuable to newly diagnosed and progressed states alike.
MercyOne Health & Fitness Center is Delay the Disease licensed facility. Classes are offered twice a week on an ongoing basis, Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. Participants undergo assessments to establish a baseline and later to measure progress. Participation in these classes are part of the monthly membership fee.
Personal training is available with trainers who have Parkinson’s specific knowledge and experience. This is recommended to those who prefer or need individualized attention, want a workout that is custom made for them, and/or are not available at the scheduled class times.
Parkinson’s patients are welcome to explore our programs through Next Steps Fitness Programs – Cognitive Health, where a doctor’s referral is required. This program is tailored to your current condition and abilities. Click here for more details.
