Larry R. joined MercyOne Health & Fitness Center shortly after his retirement. He really missed the daily group class workouts at his corporate gym downtown. Working out with his friends and coworkers was the highlight of his day.
“The variety of exercise equipment (including pool) and programs was the main draw to MercyOne Health & Fitness Center initially, but the welcoming attitude and helpfulness of staff sealed the deal. The overall quality of the facility, especially locker areas is also very impressive,” said Larry.
It was a bit overwhelming at first because Larry was not familiar with some of the equipment. There are so many group classes and programs Larry wasn’t sure where he would fit in. But the staff was so welcoming that Larry quickly found his way.
“My level of comfort with the facility grew quickly. My encounters with front desk and training staff have made the center feel like a second home to me. Whenever I had a question about how to use or adjust a particular piece of equipment or what exercises would be good for a particular ache/pain I had, the staff was always eager to give me expert instruction,” said Larry.
Since joining the center, Larry’s strength, cardio fitness, and blood pressure have improved. In addition, Larry continues to break personal records he sets for himself on the bike and row machine. As a caregiver, Larry knows that his health and strength are critical to accomplish the tasks required of him at home.
“The improvements I’ve made gives me the confidence I can do whatever I need to. With that comes great peace of mind, for both me and my wife,” Larry explains.
What keeps Larry coming back to the center beyond the offerings and his improvements is the staff.
“The staff is the #1 reason for me by far. I particularly have enjoyed small group training because you get to know your fellow members and the trainers do such a great job of designing a challenging and rewarding total body workout; much more complete than I would have done on my own. I also appreciate the fun programs, themes and contests that are offered throughout the year. It seems there’s always something to look forward to’” says Larry.
